 The Architect

Seth Freaking Rollins!. He’s really freaking good. Did you know that he took the WWE World Heavyweight Title from Brock Lesnar? Or that he’s the only man to cash in a Money in the Bank contract in the main event of WrestleMania? Or that he’s the only human being to ever hold the WWE World Heavyweight and United States Championships simultaneously? If you don’t, worry not: He’ll tell you soon enough. And if you somehow manage to tune out his (justified) boasts, it won’t be long until this hybrid athlete’s skills in the ring turn you into a believer. A veteran of the independent scene who’s more ninja than wrestler, Rollins set up shop as one of WWE’s on-the-spot history makers from the second he walked in the door. From his reign as the first-ever NXT Champion to his vaunted time as the “Architect” of The Shield, Rollins’ first two years in WWE were a master class of evolution. Coincidentally enough, that’s the name of one of the factions he and his fellow Hounds of Justice managed to upend in their near-spotless two-year run throughout WWE’s ranks. He’s even better flying solo, racking up accolades faster than WWE can produce them. Within 15 months of The Shield’s breakup, Rollins had won a Money in the Bank contract and converted it into the WWE World Heavyweight Title and added John Cena’s U.S. Title to his trophy case. Is it even possible to hold this ascendant athlete down? If you’re lucky, but only for the short-term. As he’s fond of saying, Seth Rollins is the future, and the future can’t be stopped.

The stakes could not have been higher. The fierce competitors of Raw and SmackDown LIVE would battle until all of the other team’s opponents had been pinned, disqualified, counted out or forced to submit. And so it was no wonder that the tension had reached a fever pitch as WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens, United States Champion Roman Reigns, Chris Jericho, Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins represented Raw against WWE World Champion AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton and SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon, with Team Blue’s official “mascot,” James Ellsworth, watching on.

The showdown began with both teams frequently tagging in and out, attempting to find a weak link in the opposition’s collective armor. Eventually, Team Raw took charge and closed off Shane McMahon from his squad, then proceeded to unleash enormous abuse on the SmackDown LIVE Commissioner. Dean Ambrose soon managed to relieve him, but a cheap shot on The Lunatic Fringe ignited an all-out brawl both inside and outside the ring. Shockingly, the melee culminated in SmackDown LIVE teammates Styles and Ambrose to start fighting each other. When The Phenomenal One blasted The Lunatic Fringe from behind, he opened the door for Raw’s Strowman to eliminate Ambrose.

At that point, Strowman began to single-handedly decimate Team SmackDown LIVE, which led to an even more interesting staredown against his former leader, Bray Wyatt. The abominable Strowman took down Wyatt, his own teammate Jericho and anyone else who got in his way.

Orton would hit Strowman with an RKO outta nowhere onto the announce table, with a battle-weary Shane-O-Mac adding an earth-shattering Flying Elbow off the top of the ring post. Though Shane would have to be carried back into the ring to avoid being counted out, Strowman was prevented from doing likewise, thanks to Team Blue’s mascot, Ellsworth, who emerged from under the ring to hold the Raw brute’s leg. As a result of being counted out, an irate Strowman stalked Ellsworth up the ramp, then hurled him off the stage and through a table.

Back in the ring, Shane once again endured a great deal of punishment at the hands of his Raw opponents, yet he refused to give in. Soon, Styles tagged back into the action and began to mix it up with Jericho. However, when Styles knocked Owens off the ring apron, The Prizefighter opted to blast him with Jericho’s infamous List and got himself disqualified. As a panicked Jericho attempted to pick up the pieces of his disheveled pages, Orton hit him with an RKO and sent the six-time World Champion following his best friend to the back.

The action continued to intensify as only Reigns and Rollins remained to battle Wyatt, Orton, Styles and McMahon. Yet, when Shane-O-Mac tried to go Coast-to-Coast, Reigns caught him with a midair Spear so devastating, the referee ruled Shane unable to continue. While officials helped the SmackDown LIVE Commissioner to the back, order completely broke down once more as Ambrose suddenly re-emerging from nowhere and unleashed an assault of pure retribution on “The Champ that Runs the Camp.” When security tried to regain order, Reigns and Rollins came to Ambrose’s aid, and the former Shield brothers temporarily reunited to deliver a Triple Powerbomb on Styles. Rollins then rolled the war-torn WWE World Champion into the ring and pinned him, and like that, the match was down to two men on each side.

Those numbers didn’t last long, though. As Rollins and Reigns turned their attention to Orton and Wyatt, Luke Harper suddenly emerged and gave The Wyatts a brief edge. Reigns and Rollins continued to battle tough, yet as The Architect climbed up top to finish a staggered Eater of Worlds, he instead ate a midair RKO from The Viper that left him unable to kick out of a cover by Wyatt.

Reigns was left face both Orton and Wyatt all by himself, with Harper still lurking in the wings. Nevertheless, The Big Dog was able to overcome the odds, and in fact was primed to take down Wyatt with a Spear. However, at the last second, Orton pushed the Wyatt patriarch out of the way, taking the full force of the Spear himself – and in turn, allowing The Eater of Worlds to hit Reigns with Sister Abigail for the huge victory.

Of all the titles Chris Jericho has won, the United States Championship isn’t one of them. But on Raw, he finally got a chance to win … it. Alas, he was unable to wrest the championship from a banged-up Roman Reigns, who was both a step slow after his Hell in a Cell Match and facing two-on-one odds with WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens flanking Jericho at ringside.

KO gave Jericho a big ol’ window of opportunity by shoving Reigns face-first into the turnbuckle while the ref’s back was turned, and it seemed for a while like Jericho would be able to capitalize. Reigns, as he does, fought his way back, escaping the Walls of Jericho, Lionsault, Codebreaker and Walls of Jericho again, though Owens jumped him to cause the disqualification after Reigns hit his fateful Spear. And then (!) Seth Freakin’ Rollins finally made his entrance, driving Jeri-KO away before sharing a long, pointed staredown with Reigns while the WWE Universe exploded with excitement. That’s what we call a trick and a treat.

The Kevin Owens Show has survived its one-off episode in Hell to roll on for at least another night, as the WWE Universal Championship both arrived and left Boston in the clutches of The Prizefighter, while Seth Rollins was left empty-handed yet again. Though, to be entirely fair, the third-act twist wasn’t entirely due to the merits of The KO Show’s namesake, as a most unexpected guest star crashed the Cell.

In case you couldn’t guess, that was Chris Jericho, who made his presence felt after Rollins gritted and grounded his way into position to win the match. That in and of itself was a miracle after KO snuffed out Rollins’ early showing by targeting The Architect’s back, ripping off Rollins’ Kinesio tape before savaging him all across the cage. Rollins was able to keep himself in the fight, but when Owens accidentally blasted one of the officials in the face with a fire extinguisher, Jericho took advantage of the briefly open Cell door to lock himself inside and pocket the key.

Rollins quickly dispatched Jericho by sending him crashing into the Cell wall, but the mere presence of The Ayatollah of Rock ’n’ Rolla left him at an insurmountable disadvantage. Even though he was able to power through his brutalized back to powerbomb Owens through a pair of tables, he couldn’t stop Jericho from hauling the ref away before the pinfall could be counted. And, although he was able to briefly chase Jericho down, he wasn’t able to stop Jeri-KO from ultimately uniting and bringing two steel chairs into the match. And once Owens powerbombed him through those two chairs with Jericho watching on, Rollins wasn’t able to do much of anything.

Again! Last week’s Raw closed out with Seth Rollins defeating Chris Jericho to keep Hell in a Cell’s WWE Universal Title Match a one-on-one affair between The Architect and titleholder — and Jericho’s “best friend” — Kevin Owens. And after goading Jericho into a bragging rights rematch by putting his friendship with Owens on blast, Rollins opened Raw by doing … it, again.

Oddly enough, he has Owens to thank for the victory. Looking to remind the WWE Universe of his skills following his recent slump, Jericho battled past a game Rollins and landed a successful application of the Walls of Jericho. Owens — whom Jericho had initially sent to the locker room to prove his solo bonafides — attempted to give his buddy the assist by yanking the bottom rope out of Rollins’ reach. The referee, unfortunately, saw the interference and demanded Jericho release the hold, which he did, just before suffering a Pedigree for the third consecutive week.

This led to a heated backstage confrontation that didn’t please Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon, who accepted SmackDown LIVE’s Survivor Series challenge and needed Owens and Jericho to work together. Luckily, Raw General Manager Mick Foley made lemonade by sanctioning a massive Triple Threat for next week’s Raw — Owens vs. Rollins vs. Jericho. Drink it in, man.

WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens will defend Raw’s most coveted title against Seth Rollins in a highly-anticipated rematch at WWE Hell in a Cell on Sunday, Oct. 30, live on the award-winning WWE Network. What will go down when these two heated rivals go head-to-head on WWE’s most hellacious night of the year?

The Architect has appeared to be a man possessed recently in his quest to win the WWE Universal Title, defying authority’s orders and going on the attack against KO and anyone in his way. Despite being hell-bent on once again becoming the champion, Rollins has been met with obstacle after obstacle. Whether it’s Owens himself, KO’s best buddy Chris Jericho, WWE COO Triple H or Raw’s authority duo of Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley, the No. 1 contender has been met with resistance at every turn.

Despite these hurdles, Rollins will get another chance to overcome WWE’s prizefighter at the notoriously brutal Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event, which just happens to be taking place on the eve of Halloween. On a night known for mischief, will the WWE Universe witness another controversial ending to a WWE Universal Championship Match?

For as badly as Rollins wants to win Raw’s top title, Owens has just as much desire to hold onto the championship. And, the Canadian grappler clearly has a number of supporters. Since winning the WWE Universal Championship, Owens has shown a knack for evading danger. But, will he be able to survive another battle against Rollins with his coveted championship in tow?

Don’t miss this huge rematch for the WWE Universal Championship between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins, live on WWE Network, on Sunday, Oct. 30, at Hell in a Cell.
