Bio: Seth Rollins began his career as an independent wrestler who wasted no time making an impact in the world of sports-entertainment. After becoming the first NXT Champion in August 2012, Rollins quickly moved on to join forces with fellow NXT standouts Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns to wreak havoc on WWE.

The trio debuted in WWE at Survivor Series 2012, smashing Ryback through the announce table and costing him a title match against WWE Champion CM Punk. The group returned the following night on Raw during Punk’s 365-day championship celebration, sending Ryback through the announce table once more.

When Rollins, Ambrose and Reigns finally spoke a week later for the first time in WWE, the trio denied any involvement with Punk. Rollins said they “saw things heading in the wrong direction,” so the group “stepped in and righted those wrongs.” Rollins referred to himself and his cohorts as “a shield from injustice in WWE,” and Ambrose aptly named the group “The Shield.”

The Shield took on Ryback & Team Hell No in a Six-Man Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match at WWE TLC. Rollins and company may have seemed outmatched going into the contest, but the pack of predators proved just how vicious they could be when they picked apart their more experienced opponents and won the brutal match. In The Shield’s second sanctioned WWE match at Elimination Chamber against an all-star trio of John Cena, Sheamus & Ryback, The Shield’s hunt for justice continued with a shocking victory, which they replicated the next night on Raw against Sheamus, Ryback & Chris Jericho.

Although they occasionally stumbled in singles action, The Shield was unstoppable as a collective unit, besting Big Show, Randy Orton & Sheamus at WrestleMania 29 before overcoming their biggest challenge yet in the grouping of Team Hell No & The Undertaker. At Extreme Rules, The Shield established themselves as WWE’s most dominant trio with Ambrose capturing the United States Title, Rollins & Reigns defeating Team Hell No in a Tornado Tag Team Match to capture the WWE Tag Team Titles. The duo has been nearly flawless since that night, fending off opponents like Bryan & Orton and The Usos to keep a tight hold on their championships.

Following SummerSlam, The Shield continued to make impactful statements with multiple attacks against Daniel Bryan on the orders of WWE COO Triple H. At Night of Champions, Rollins & Reigns successfully defended their titles once again, this time against The Prime Time Players. The following night on Raw, Daniel Bryan scored a win via disqualification over Reigns after Randy Orton interfered in the bout. As The Shield and Orton began to pounce on Bryan, a slew of Superstars charged from the locker room to come to the Superstar’s aid, sending The Shield into retreat mode – and perhaps revealing that the trio was not as unstoppable as they seemed.

At WWE Battleground, The Hounds of Justice fell to brothers Cody Rhodes & Goldust with the Rhodes family’s jobs on the line. Eight days later, they suffered an even greater loss when the Rhodes brothers, assisted by an interfering Big Show, defeated them to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions. Rollins & Reigns, along with The Usos, attempted to reclaim the championship in a a Triple Threat Tag Team Championship Match at WWE Hell in a Cell, but ultimately came up short as the Rhodes brothers successfully defended WWE’s twin titles. The Shield teamed with The Real Americans to defeat the Rhodes brothers, The Usos & Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series, but Rollins was eliminated from the bout. The Shield was less fortunate at WWE TLC, where an errant spear from Reigns allowed CM Punk to pin Ambrose and beat the entire Shield in a 3-on-1 Handicap Match. On the Dec. 30 Raw, Rollins accepted an open challenge from Punk to face The Shield’s “best” member, but was unsuccessful in his attempt to defeat the former WWE Champion.

Whether or not The Shield has served justice in their wave of attacks is debatable, but the group’s statement in perpetrating them is undeniable.
