 The Architect

Seth Freaking Rollins!. He’s really freaking good. Did you know that he took the WWE World Heavyweight Title from Brock Lesnar? Or that he’s the only man to cash in a Money in the Bank contract in the main event of WrestleMania? Or that he’s the only human being to ever hold the WWE World Heavyweight and United States Championships simultaneously? If you don’t, worry not: He’ll tell you soon enough. And if you somehow manage to tune out his (justified) boasts, it won’t be long until this hybrid athlete’s skills in the ring turn you into a believer. A veteran of the independent scene who’s more ninja than wrestler, Rollins set up shop as one of WWE’s on-the-spot history makers from the second he walked in the door. From his reign as the first-ever NXT Champion to his vaunted time as the “Architect” of The Shield, Rollins’ first two years in WWE were a master class of evolution. Coincidentally enough, that’s the name of one of the factions he and his fellow Hounds of Justice managed to upend in their near-spotless two-year run throughout WWE’s ranks. He’s even better flying solo, racking up accolades faster than WWE can produce them. Within 15 months of The Shield’s breakup, Rollins had won a Money in the Bank contract and converted it into the WWE World Heavyweight Title and added John Cena’s U.S. Title to his trophy case. Is it even possible to hold this ascendant athlete down? If you’re lucky, but only for the short-term. As he’s fond of saying, Seth Rollins is the future, and the future can’t be stopped.

"I think Seth Rollins is a perennial champion for the next decade. I think in the same way that John Cena and Randy Orton are multi, multi-time champions from 2005 on, I think that is now Seth Rollins' position."

Bret Hart has seen the future of wrestling, and he is the man wearing the WWE championship.

“Seth Rollins is one of the hardest working wrestlers I’ve ever seen,” said Hart.

“He’s one of those rare guys in the industry today who is an innovator and a guy who creates new ideas, moves, and psychology.”

“I know I got really excited about wrestling again after watching CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, but now neither one of those guys is around, and Seth Rollins is going to carry the company. His timing is impeccable and he does a lot of challenging, creative, complex stuff.”

CBS Sports: What do you think of the job Seth Rollins has been doing as WWE Champion?

Paul Heyman: “I think Seth Rollins is a perennial champion for the next decade. I think in the same way that John Cena and Randy Orton are multi, multi-time champions from 2005 on, I think that is now Seth Rollins’ position. I think Seth Rollins is in the title picture for the next decade. He has established himself as a main event performer. He has delivered on every occasion that he has had the opportunity to perform. And he has risen to the top faster than anyone else that has been called up so far from NXT. So I think Seth Rollins is just at the very beginning of his career as a main eventer.

“I mean, Seth Rollins was involved in the main event of this year’s WrestleMania, but he wasn’t advertised as a main event at this year’s WrestleMania. We have yet to see Seth Rollins have the opportunity to perform in a WrestleMania main event. I don’t think you’ve even seen Seth Rollins scratch the surface of what he’s capable of doing.”

Moving onto one such cat from the main roster – and one that excelled on the NXT stage before emerging as ‘The Architect’ of The Shield – what adjustments would Steve make to WWE World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins if, like previous WWE 2k16 games, there were options to ‘create a character’?

Steve, regarded as a fountain of wrestling knowledge who often offers constructive criticism on how stars can improve their game on his twice-weekly podcast responds: “There’s a guy who has got all the pieces put together right now, he’s on a roll and I think he’s an exciting guy, I think he’s representing very well.

“I think he has a pretty good repertoire right now. I might play him a little bit more aggressively than he performs in the squared circle, dial him up from that aspect and give him a bit more of a mean streak.

“But I think you’re looking at a guy who is a very well-rounded athlete. I know he loves crossfit for his training regime. All of these guys are so dynamic now.”

While not taking for granted his opponent in Sheamus, “he hits hard” said Orton, looking past Battleground and to potential other matchups he would welcome, the veteran had praise for many of the up-and-rising talents of the WWE.

“It’s not really fair to say Seth Rollins since I just came out of a program with him,” began Orton, explaining it was about unfinished business. “All that aside, from just a business standpoint and just speaking truth, I think he’s the absolute best guy who’s come up in a long time. I know that I can have a really good match with him and it’s entertaining–he’s a fun guy for me to beat up, that’s all I can say.”

What an amazing performance by Seth Rollins – WWE Universe tonight on WWE Monday Night Raw. While Rollins was often the overlooked member of the SHIELD, he can steal any show onany given night, and following the brutality of the beating he took last night at #HIAC, his ability to come back just one night later with a performance like this is nothing short of remarkable.

While many of you were not happy with the conclusion of last night’s Cell match – or tonight’s #CenavsRollins match, it should not in any way take away from the gutsy performances Rollins turned in on both night’s. Handled correctly, the sky is the limit for this guy.

Facebook Post by Mick Foley

“I don’t know that the WWE Champion has to be the future of the company. I don’t know that any one person should be the future of the company. If it is, it’s poor management, because you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket. I don’t believe in that at all. But I am very proud of the worker that he has become. He has a great mind for the business, extremely strong work ethic, he’s a booker’s dream. He’s a beatable champion. In the territory days, theoretically, on any given night that he’s defending the title, he can be beaten. He’s not so physically imposing that he looks unbeatable. So I like that. If you’re going to have a heel champion, then I like one that has vulnerability. This kid has built his body up well, he trains religiously, he eats amazingly well and he’s very serious about all that. That means to me that he has made a commitment, so I am a big big Seth Rollins fan.

I would not take the championship of Seth Rollins until WrestleMania. At WrestleMania if I have something that I believes work then that is where he would drop the title. By then he would have had a full year and if he is not over and he is not a “made man” after being champion then you can’t blame the promotion.”
