WWE superstars like Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Xavier Woods, Sasha Banks, and more are coming to Boom Studios in comic book form. The series will follow multiple wrestlers going about their daily business, like breaking tables, fighting in the ring, and grilling out on top of a WWE truck.

On November 9, the publisher will debut its first comic utilizing the WWE license: WWE: Then. Now. Forever, and you can see a preview of this issue below. This is an introduction to what Boom Studios has in store for fans, when the ongoing WWE series launches in January.

The oversized, one-shot issue tells the story of Seth Rollins betraying his former teammates, The Shield. The action takes place inside and outside the ring as fans learn what led Rollins to turn on his friends. The story is written by Dennis Hopeless and features the art of Dan Mora.

In addition, there are a few other stories in this 48-page comic, including a New Day story by Ross Thibodeaux and Rob Guillory, a Sasha Banks story by Rob Schamberger, and a Tugboat short by Derek Fridolfs. This comic goes on sale on November 9 and will cost $4.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins (Triple Threat Match)

Two years removed from the unforgettable rupture of The Shield, newly crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose faces his fellow former Hounds of Justice Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a Triple Threat Match at WWE Battleground.

A three-way showdown among Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns seemed inevitable from the moment Rollins stabbed his brothers in the back, dissolving the once-dominant faction. Less expected was that it would be The Lunatic Fringe sitting in the catbird position as defending champion. Yet, Ambrose earned that accolade at WWE Money in the Bank, winning the event’s namesake match and cashing in his guaranteed championship match contract that same night against Rollins, who himself had just pinned Reigns to regain the title.

The cyclonic turn of events turned WWE on its head and underscored what everyone already knew: Competition among the former Shield allies runs deep and is full of parity.

So evenly matched are the Superstars that a single No. 1 contender could not be named the following night on Raw, when The Big Dog and The Architect jockeyed for the right to challenge Ambrose. As the thrilling match reached its crescendo, Reigns Speared Rollins onto the Spanish announce table and neither Superstar could beat the referee’s 10-count.

Even though no decisive winner was declared, Ambrose proved himself to be a fighting champion right away, volunteering to take on both Reigns and Rollins on Sunday, July 24.

With that, the table is now set for one of the most anticipated WWE World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Matches of all time. Which ex-Hound of Justice will prove his supremacy at WWE Battleground? Will it be the rebuilt and redesigned Architect, eager to win back the title he trained so hard to reclaim, only to lose it moments later? Will The Big Dog use his punishing strength to dismantle both friend (Ambrose) and foe (Rollins)? Or might the match’s Lunatic Fringe remind those who know him best just how dangerous he can be?

Watch the Shield showdown that has been years in the making when WWE Battleground airs live on the award-winning WWE Network Sunday, July 24, at 8 ET/5 PT.

#33 The Shield — “Special Op”

The voices of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns filled the arena, crackling through military walkie-talkies as they called out seemingly random terms: “Sierra. Hotel. India. Echo. Lima. Delta.” Anyone who ever did a stint in the Boy Scouts immediately recognized the phonetic alphabet spelling of the word Shield, but by that time it was already too late. The punishing crunch of militant guitars had kicked in and The Hounds of Justice had encircled their yard — the ring — ready to devour their latest prey. — JOEY STYLES

#18 The Shield

If you were a Superstar who stepped into the ring against The Shield between 2012 and 2014, you knew you were probably going to lose. If you were the WWE Universe tuning into a Shield match during that same time, you knew you were about to get a master class from three young upstarts who didn’t care what the rules were, or whatever “top guy” of the day was standing in their path.

To the collective of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns, every Superstar was simply a body waiting to be Triple Powerbombed into the mat, every potential victory a statement that had yet to be stamped and every crowd just believers waiting to be converted. There’s a reason they didn’t take a true blue loss for almost a year: Nobody, outside of outrageous circumstance or baffling good luck, could manage to beat them. And yes, it’s a shame Rollins had to betray his brothers to fast-track his own rise to the top, but there’s also a certain kind of logic to it. For these three marauders, there were truly no worlds left to conquer. — ANTHONY BENIGNO
