 The Architect

Seth Freaking Rollins!. He’s really freaking good. Did you know that he took the WWE World Heavyweight Title from Brock Lesnar? Or that he’s the only man to cash in a Money in the Bank contract in the main event of WrestleMania? Or that he’s the only human being to ever hold the WWE World Heavyweight and United States Championships simultaneously? If you don’t, worry not: He’ll tell you soon enough. And if you somehow manage to tune out his (justified) boasts, it won’t be long until this hybrid athlete’s skills in the ring turn you into a believer. A veteran of the independent scene who’s more ninja than wrestler, Rollins set up shop as one of WWE’s on-the-spot history makers from the second he walked in the door. From his reign as the first-ever NXT Champion to his vaunted time as the “Architect” of The Shield, Rollins’ first two years in WWE were a master class of evolution. Coincidentally enough, that’s the name of one of the factions he and his fellow Hounds of Justice managed to upend in their near-spotless two-year run throughout WWE’s ranks. He’s even better flying solo, racking up accolades faster than WWE can produce them. Within 15 months of The Shield’s breakup, Rollins had won a Money in the Bank contract and converted it into the WWE World Heavyweight Title and added John Cena’s U.S. Title to his trophy case. Is it even possible to hold this ascendant athlete down? If you’re lucky, but only for the short-term. As he’s fond of saying, Seth Rollins is the future, and the future can’t be stopped.

Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins’ unlikely reunion and Raw Tag Team Title run has held the rest of the division at bay for weeks, but in a confrontation between champions and challengers, Cesaro & Sheamus declared the “nostalgia ride” will only last until the two “brothers” remember they can’t stand each other. Add Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson into the mix and toss ‘em in a Triple Threat, and it turns out “The Bar” might be right to think the champs aren’t as bulletproof as they seem.

Granted, The Architect and The Lunatic Fringe don’t seem to hate each other anymore — the only thing that really sets Ambrose off is being called a nerd — but Ambrose & Rollins made their first significant mistake as a team all the same.

After suffering a Magic Killer and “The Bar’s” spin on a 3D, The Kingslayer finally reached Ambrose, and the champions took everyone out with a pair of synchronized suicide dives. But Sheamus sneakily tagged himself in right before The Lunatic Fringe hit Dirty Deeds on Anderson, tossed Ambrose from the ring and stole the pinfall. Score one for “The Bar,” but they’ll likely need a little more than opportune timing to regain the Raw Tag Team Championship come Sunday.

It’s every tag team for themselves on Team Red. A week after Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson threw down against Cesaro & Sheamus, who are next in line for Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins’ Raw Tag Team Titles, a match was sanctioned between “The Bar” and the good brothers, only it never quite got off the ground after Cesaro & Sheamus got into it with the champs at the commentary table. Gallows & Anderson were quick to join the scuffle, which led to a massive three-way brawl among the teams.

Ambrose & Rollins were game for a match against both tandems, but Raw General Manager Kurt Angle, looking to keep his champions in one piece as WWE No Mercy approaches, offered a compromise instead: Find another team to join them, and they would get to tee off on Cesaro, Sheamus, Gallows and Anderson all they wanted in an Eight-Man Tag Team Match.

Cesaro & Sheamus predicted that, when it came down to it, Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins would turn on each other and ultimately cost themselves the Raw Tag Team Titles, but that day didn’t come on Raw. In fact, “The Bar” ironically couldn’t keep their own impromptu alliance together for Team Red’s main-event, an 8-Man tag that teamed them, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson against Ambrose, Rollins & The Hardy Boyz.

True, the former champs were initially a well-oiled machine alongside the good brothers despite fighting them for two straight weeks. They even managed to cut Ambrose off from his allies for almost the entire match. But once Seth Rollins tagged in, all bets were off: The Kingslayer singlehandedly took the fight to both Gallows & Anderson, and a pair of Twists of Fate to The Suntan Biker Man were enough to prompt “The Bar” to call it a day.

With Anderson left alone in the ring, a unified one-two of Rollins’ ripcord knee and Dirty Deeds spelled the end of the match, a display of perfect teamwork that nonetheless didn’t seem to shake “The Bar’s” confidence as their title match nears … at least, not yet.

Rough news awaits for Heath Slater’s kids: The One-Man Band and Rhyno fell short in a Raw contest against Cesaro & Sheamus, who have managed to keep pace in the Tag Team division even after losing the Raw Tag Team Titles to Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins. The inaugural SmackDown Tag Team Champions did give “The Bar” a solid fight, with Rhyno nearly turning the tables against Sheamus while Ambrose & Rollins watched from commentary. Unfortunately, The Man Beast wandered straight into the path of a Brogue Kick after he attempted to dispose of an interfering Cesaro, giving the victors a boost as their Tag Team Title rematch approaches.

Cesaro & Sheamus showed they’re not slowing down anytime soon with their win over Heath Slater & Rhyno, but Raw Tag Team Champions Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins are right there with them. The champs defeated Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, a move that won’t exactly earn them good-brother status but definitely does wonders for their momentum as their showdown with “The Bar” looms large in the distance.

They might need it, too: Cesaro & Sheamus jaw-jacked with Gallows & Anderson before the match and lurked, stone-faced at ringside for the entire bout … at least until they attempted to interfere.

Rollins used Anderson as a human projectile to thwart the intrusion, rolling his foe up for the win moments later. And then Cesaro & Sheamus surprised everyone by going after the good brothers instead of the champions, getting the better of a brief, but intense fight. Even when their plans go awry, they still set the bar, and might just dictate the pace as well.

Seth Rollins has been jaw-jacking with The Usos all weekend, but he and Dean Ambrose might have a far more present danger to worry about, as The Kingslayer fell to Cesaro in a singles match pitting one half of the current Raw Tag Team Champions against one half of the tandem they defeated to win the titles.

And it’s all because of the other half of that tandem, as Sheamus took Rollins’ eye off the proverbial ball by taking a swipe at the ropes while The Architect was preparing to fly. While Ambrose scrapped with The Celtic Warrior on the outside, Cesaro uncorked a home-run uppercut to Rollins that put him down for three. The only person who was happier than Cesaro about the win turned out to be Sheamus, who challenged Ambrose to a match on the spot.

It’s a split series for the current and former Raw Tag Team Champions, as Dean Ambrose knocked off Sheamus just moments after The Alabaster Gladiator’s impromptu challenge to The Lunatic Fringe. The Alabaster Gladiator was riding high off of his partner Cesaro’s win over Ambrose’s own partner Seth Rollins, and The Lunatic Fringe quickly showed his foe that his eyes were bigger than his stomach. Through a series of impressive reversals (that tornado DDT!) some gritty perseverance through a banged-up back, and an assist from Rollins, who bailed his partner out of White Noise behind the ref’s back, Ambrose planted Sheamus with Dirty Deeds for the 1-2-3.

The band is back together, and the dream matches have already begun. Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins opened their unlikely Raw Tag Team Title reign by declaring the evening to be a “party” and inviting any team in the locker room to step to them, seemingly expecting Cesaro & Sheamus to come looking for a rematch. Instead, they got a gentleman’s challenge from The Hardy Boyz, and it was exactly as epic as you might have imagined. (Cesaro & Sheamus scouted from the locker room.)

The Most Exhilarating Tag Team In History didn’t just hang with the younger tandem, they came awfully close to defeating the new champions after Matt Hardy hit The Lunatic Fringe with the Twist of Fate to tee him up for Jeff Hardy’s Swanton Bomb. However, Rollins superkicked Matt right after Jeff tagged in, and Ambrose got his knees up to block the Swanton, leaving The Charismatic Enigma alone to suffer the one-two combo of Rollins’ ripcord knee and a match-ending Dirty Deeds.

Like any pair of brothers worth their salt, all it took to bring Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins back together was to let them fight it out.

The two former WWE Champions put their cards on the table and threw hands in a heated confrontation at the opening of Raw, bringing their weeks — well, years, really— of tension and resentment to a head after several weeks of tepidly-received olive branches. So it was easy to see why Cesaro & Sheamus decided to attack their rivals while they were down, only Ambrose & Rollins surprised everyone by driving the Raw Tag Team Champions back as one, fist bump and all. And, given that Raw General Manager Kurt Angle formally sanctioned a Tag Team Title Match between the two duos at SummerSlam, it might just be time to believe again.

Say what you will about Dean Ambrose; the man keeps his promises.

The Lunatic Fringe told Seth Rollins he was done bailing out his former brother-in-arms last week, and he stayed true to his word in emphatic fashion during The Architect’s rematch with Sheamus on Raw. Whereas Rollins surprised the Raw Tag Team Champion last week, The Alabaster Gladiator reversed his fortunes in Round 2, pinning Rollins with a roll-up of his own off an assist from Cesaro.

The cohesive Raw Tag Team Champions proceeded to lay a lengthy beating on Rollins after the match — one that only got worse when they realized that Ambrose would not be coming to the rescue.

Say what you will about Seth Rollins, but he won’t leave a man hanging: Despite Dean Ambrose refusing to come to The Kingslayer’s aid after his match against Sheamus, Rollins lent Ambrose a hand after The Lunatic Fringe found himself in hot water of his own with the Raw Tag Team Champions.

The main difference was that Ambrose had won his match, an epic, scientific affair with Cesaro wherein the two Superstars traded a wide array of old-school holds and locks before they broke out the heavy artillery. Down to the wire, The Lunatic Fringe won off a roll-up, and when the champs swarmed him, Rollins arrived to drive them back. Ambrose was convinced enough of Rollins’ intentions to offer the customary fist bump, but Rollins left him high and dry this time around. Turnabout is fair play.

If Seth Rollins is still The Man, he remains a man without a country, as his continued efforts to mend fences with Dean Ambrose seemingly went nowhere in the early goings of Raw. His night did take a turn for the better when he defeated a trash-talking Sheamus (who, as Raw Tag Team Champions with Cesaro, does have brotherhood on his side), but unfortunately for The Kingslayer, he immediately found himself subject to a 2-on-1 disadvantage.

Moments after Rollins pinned The Alabaster Gladiator off a rollup, Cesaro joined his partner in a two-pronged mugging of the former WWE Champion. Eventually, The Lunatic Fringe came to his old brother’s aid after all, but Ambrose suffered a stomping of his own for his trouble. (True to form, Ambrose incurred extra punishment after eating a Neutralizer and daring the champs to keep it coming).

So, Ambrose and Rollins found themselves on the wrong side of a beatdown. The good news, at the very least, is the former Shield brothers did it together.
