 The Architect

Seth Freaking Rollins!. He’s really freaking good. Did you know that he took the WWE World Heavyweight Title from Brock Lesnar? Or that he’s the only man to cash in a Money in the Bank contract in the main event of WrestleMania? Or that he’s the only human being to ever hold the WWE World Heavyweight and United States Championships simultaneously? If you don’t, worry not: He’ll tell you soon enough. And if you somehow manage to tune out his (justified) boasts, it won’t be long until this hybrid athlete’s skills in the ring turn you into a believer. A veteran of the independent scene who’s more ninja than wrestler, Rollins set up shop as one of WWE’s on-the-spot history makers from the second he walked in the door. From his reign as the first-ever NXT Champion to his vaunted time as the “Architect” of The Shield, Rollins’ first two years in WWE were a master class of evolution. Coincidentally enough, that’s the name of one of the factions he and his fellow Hounds of Justice managed to upend in their near-spotless two-year run throughout WWE’s ranks. He’s even better flying solo, racking up accolades faster than WWE can produce them. Within 15 months of The Shield’s breakup, Rollins had won a Money in the Bank contract and converted it into the WWE World Heavyweight Title and added John Cena’s U.S. Title to his trophy case. Is it even possible to hold this ascendant athlete down? If you’re lucky, but only for the short-term. As he’s fond of saying, Seth Rollins is the future, and the future can’t be stopped.

Don’t let last week’s unexpected rescue fool you: Dean Ambrose still isn’t down for a mini-Shield reunion with Seth Rollins. Despite having rescued The Kingslayer from The Miz & The Miztourage last week, The Lunatic Fringe assured his former brother that Rollins was simply in the vicinity of his intended target — that’d be The Miz — and his distrust of the former Authority man hasn’t dimmed one bit since Rollins disintegrated The Hounds of Justice.

Rollins, looking to finally put the past in the past, offered an unprecedented apology to Ambrose and even a free crack with a steel chair, but The Lunatic Fringe couldn’t bring himself to follow through. Miz and The Miztourage had no such qualms, however, surrounding the ring and picking both Rollins and Ambrose apart with steel chairs of their own. The numbers game strikes again — though not against the Superstars you’d expect.

It was later announced by Kurt Angle, that Seth and Dean will face The Miz, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas in a Handicap match next week on RAW

The Miz managed to hold off Dean Ambrose and retain his Intercontinental Title at WWE Great Balls of Fire (with assists from Maryse and The Miztourage, of course), so he came to Raw with one thing in mind: to give himself and his people some awards.

In fact, The first-ever “Mizzies” were little more than an excuse for Miz to present trophies to his team: Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel co-won Best Supporting Actor, Maryse won Most Beautiful, Gorgeous, Sexy Leading Lady and Miz himself won Greatest Man in WWE. And during his “acceptance speech,” The A-Lister came out of left field to label The Hardys, Akira Tozawa and Seth Rollins as “frauds.”

But The Lunatic Fringe was ready to play spoiler, crashing The Mizzies and taking the fight back to the Intercontinental Champion. Much like WWE Great Balls of Fire, Ambrose found himself outnumbered, at least until he cleared the ring with a clutch assist from one of the very same men Miz called a fraud: Seth Freakin’ Rollins.

Despite the brief reunion, however, Ambrose wasn’t exactly raring to re-team with his old running mate in a pointed backstage confrontation.

A jab to the eye cost Seth Rollins his bout with Bray Wyatt at WWE Great Balls of Fire, but the rematch on Raw was, ironically, eye opening in several capacities. To begin with, it reaffirmed Wyatt’s power — despite Rollins compromising his hand so he couldn’t cheap-shot him again, The Reaper of Souls reversed Rollins’ jumping knee with a headbutt to the eye and hit Sister Abigail to win.

For another, when Wyatt vanished after the end of the match, The Miz and The Miztourage reappeared to pick the bones, and Dean Ambrose came to his former brother’s rescue with a chair, an eye-opening change of tune given his fight-our-own-battles speech to Rollins earlier in the night.

Seth Rollins may never believe that Bray Wyatt is a “god,” but The Reaper of Souls cast The Architect down all the same in the opening match of the first-ever WWE Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view event, and he did so with absolute relish.

After weeks of absorbing insults — “blasphemy,” in his words — from Rollins, Wyatt seemed to enjoy getting in The Kingslayer’s head in the early goings of their long-brewing confrontation. The Reaper of Souls laughed off The Architect’s early attacks and dangled upside-down off the ring post, stopping Seth cold right as he was about to pounce. Wyatt only turned on the jets once Rollins had been good and duly unmanned, and once he did, The Eater of Worlds quickly looked like a “god” of the Old Testament variety. The Kingslayer was subjected to all manner of savagery, landing face-first on the steel steps before suffering a superplex off the top rope and an unorthodox maneuver that spiked him forehead first into the apron.

The Kingslayer only managed to find daylight after dodging a running senton from his foe, and Rollins quickly threw his body to the wind in an attempt to claw out of the abyss. Bray answered in kind, blasting The Architect with a clothesline that forced Seth to deplete his own strength with maneuvers like a Michinoku Driver. Rollins’ persistence led Wyatt to scream “FIGHT ME!” at the top of his lungs, and The Architect obliged, driving The Eater of Worlds out of the ring with a flurry of fists and kicks.

Alas, boxing with a self-proclaimed “god” turned out to be a bad move for The Man. While the ref attempted to peel Rollins off his foe, Wyatt jabbed The Architect in the eye with his thumb. Quite literally blinded by Wyatt’s power, Rollins was easy pickings for a Sister Abigail that put him down for three.

Curt Hawkins was less than impressed with the results of his impromptu audience poll last week when the WWE Universe guessed (correctly) that he would fall to Seth Rollins, and The Kingslayer wasn’t about to let him have a redo in any capacity this week before their rematch — Rollins interrupted Hawkins’ poll and notched a second win over The Prince of Queens on the strength of a knee to the face, at which point he once again turned his fury towards Bray Wyatt. Rollins vowed to expose The Reaper of Souls as a false deity at the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view, ending with a direct question to his tormentor: “Are you a man? Or are you just a coward?”

Say this for Curt Hawkins: He genuinely gave it his all in a match against Seth Rollins, swarming The Kingslayer from jump in an attempt to convince all the naysayers that he could topple The Man if given the opportunity. Rollins, alas, would not be denied so easily. Despite Hawkins’ smothering efforts, The Prince of Queens was dismissed with a Sling Blade, Blockbuster, superkick and knee to the face in quick succession.

Bray Wyatt was quick to respond — he appeared on the TitanTron moments after the bell tolled to proclaim, once again, that he would “cleanse” Rollins with fire and allow The Architect to embrace his true self. He even had a time in mind for such a poential purification: Sunday, July 9.

It’s been a pretty good day for Seth Rollins, who earlier this morning was named as the cover star for WWE 2K18 with an awesome trailer to boot.

The Architect dedicated the honor to the WWE Universe for helping to will him down the path of redemption following his betrayal of The Shield three years prior, but Bray Wyatt wasn’t buying the idea of Rollins as a man of the people.

The Reaper of Souls once again appeared on the TitanTron to try to tear Rollins down, though The Kingslayer’s calm dismissal of Wyatt as a coward was enough to draw The Eater of Worlds out of his hiding place and into the arena. This turned out to be exactly what Rollins wanted; the second Wyatt had finished his long march through the fireflies, The Architect swooped down on him from the top rope, laying him out before making his exit.
