For those who simply know Mercury as one half of MNM alongside John Morrison, Ambrose’s statement might be a little shocking. However, Mercury’s greatest impact on sports-entertainment came after he stepped out of the ring, and into his new role as one of WWE’s most respected producers, as well as a mentor to breakout Superstars like The Shield.

“He is a mastermind when it comes to wrestling psychology, and the ins and outs of being in the ring,” Seth Rollins explained. “He loves teaching people how to do things and do them better. He’s a talent maximizer. He takes your best assets and makes them better. He takes the things you’re terrible at and helps you improve.”

“Wrestling Joey for the first time was mind-blowing,” Seth Rollins said of a 2007 battle with Mercury. “I had never been in the ring with someone who looked at what we did so closely and so analytically. I was like, ‘I’ve got to step my game up if that’s what a WWE Superstar is thinking and doing.’”

“I think he’s found peace,” Rollins said. “He once told me that he’s never had a feeling in the ring by himself that compares to the feeling he gets [working with Superstars].”

Mercury formed a close bond with the three members of The Shield in NXT, which continued as The Hounds of Justice joined the main roster and Mercury became a producer on the road.

Joey Mercury echoes Rollins’ sentiment. “I look at them like they’re my babies,” he said. “I have a lot of children out there. To see them grow up and make it to what they’ve been working for and tear the house down, that’s really rewarding.”

Seth Rollins’ favorite wrestler is Necro Butcher

“In the way that Sabu was revolutionary for his time, The Necro Butcher is that guy for our time. He channels all these great brawlers of the past, has this unique look and is completely fearless. I’ve wrestled with him and against him and he can do anything you need him to do. He’s actually very talented all-around in the ring, and on top of all that, he’s one of the smartest people I know. He graduated high school when he was 13 or 14-years-old.

“He’s just so captivating to watch, because anything could happen at any moment. Things could go crazy. His matches against Samoa Joe were such a strange clash of styles, they were incredible to watch. There’s just this crazy energy between the two of them, because Joe is this animal of a man, but Necro can take every single thing that Joe can dish out. You can feel it. Necro Butcher is something special.”

By now, we know The Shield comprises three distinct elements. Dean Ambrose brings the unpredictable lunacy, Roman Reigns shatters foes with his punishing force and Seth Rollins is, simply put, The Architect of the group.

Don’t get it twisted. Such a moniker doesn’t mean Rollins carries around tape measures, engineering scales and CAD software from arena to arena. Rather, his CrossFit-conditioned body and the 20-by-20 squared circle are the only tools of his trade. Instead of laying out his brilliant designs on sheets of tracing paper, Rollins does so inside the ropes, unleashing captivating moves that few can hope to replicate. And inspiration? Heck, Rollins is way more likely to glean concepts from Y2J than I.M. Pei.

You get what we’re saying. As George Costanza would attest, there is simply no higher aspiration than to be an architect, and fortunately for The Hounds of Justice, they have one in Seth Rollins. With that in mind, WWE.com touched base with The Architect himself to learn more about the blueprints behind seven of his wildest in-ring designs.

For the WWE Universe, the letters WCW usually bring to mind Hollywood Hogan, Sting or even Eric Bischoff. However, in the Twitterverse, the hashtag stands for “Woman Crush Wednesday,” and it presents a weekly opportunity for lovelorn men to gush over an attractive member of the opposite gender.

Our confusion over #WCW got us thinking: Which women of the squared circle did today’s WWE Superstars have crushes on growing up? Find out who pined for the blonde bombshell Sable, the elegant beauty Miss Elizabeth and the totally out there Luna Vachon!

Ever the ladies’ man, Seth Rollins could not decide on just one crush. He chose both Gorgeous George and Major Gunns from WCW. These lovely ladies served as valets for Randy Savage and The Misfits in Action, respectively.

“They didn’t look like wrestlers to me, because they weren’t,” The Architect of The Shield recalled. “They had platinum blonde hair and they were all dolled up and had banging bodies. And at 14 years old, seeing women who looked like that blew my mind.” [Laughs]

Joey Styles: Individually, the three members of Evolution can probably beat the three members of The Shield. However, re-editing an entrance video does not make Triple H, Batista & Randy Orton the same cohesive unit that they were a decade ago. As a whole, The Shield is stronger and, to quote Aristotle, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” WINNER: The Shield

Howard Finkel: I am going with The Hounds of Justice to emerge victorious, in what I believe will be a closely contested contest. The difference maker to me is the cohesiveness of The Shield against the potential egomaniacal tendencies that I feel could surface amongst the members of Evolution. It’s just a premonition that I have. WINNER: The Shield

Ryan Murphy: Daniel Bryan proved at WrestleMania 30 that you can fight city hall, but there’s no way The Shield are going to realize the same thing. Triple H has seen what happens when he lets a Superstar get bigger than he can control and he’s not going to let it happen again with Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns. Expect the old guard to take this one — by any means necessary. WINNER: Evolution

Bobby Melok: Though Ambrose, Reigns & Rollins have the upper hand at the moment after taking out Evolution’s hired goons, Triple H, Randy Orton & Batista have been waging war for far longer than The Shield. In the battle that is sure to unfold Sunday, the winner will be the team that can bend the rules to its advantage. I give the veteran Evolution the edge. WINNER: Evolution

John Clapp: The Hounds of Justice ate up The Attitude Era at WrestleMania, but are they capable of stopping the most dominant faction of The Ruthless Aggression Era? The Shield always seems to adapt to their situation. This six-man brawl will be a harsh Reality Era check for The Game. WINNER: The Shield

The Shield: 3, Evolution: 2
